I am in the Manufacturing and Operations Management Group at GSIA. We have close ties with engineering; for example we have a joint PhD program with Center for Integrated Manufacturing Decision Systems. At GSIA, we have a strong orientation towards Operations Management; for example, our MSIA (MBA equivalent) program in this area is ranked near the top.

Research Interests

o Developing Internet-based tools using models and techniques -- stochastic models, simulation, mathematical programming, stochastic programming, randomized algorithms, algebraic geometry -- to solve problems in Manufacturing and Operations Management, including Inventory Planning problems in Supply Chain Management, Lot-sizing and Bottleneck management within Plant Management and Managing Product Variety through Mass Customization.

o

Research Topics

o Supply Chain Management; Capacitated production-inventory models (serial, assembly, distribution and re-entrant systems); Value of Information; Designing Responsive Supply Chains.

oDesign, Analysis and Implementation of Kanban Systems; Just-in-Time manufacturing.

oDeveloping strategies and algorithms to manage product variety : Component Commonality, Vanilla Boxes and Task Design.

    oAccurate Lead-time quotation.

oDeveloping effective methods of managing multi-product systems.

    o International Operations.
